What is your area of practice?
I focus my practice on complex commercial litigation related to securities and financial fraud, contractual disputes, shareholder derivative actions, minority shareholder disputes, and securities-related actions facing brokerage firms, brokers, and investors.

How did you do it?
I didn’t “do it.” I’m not done, yet. I’m still doing it – challenging and motivating myself to improve each day, striving to reach new goals, adhering to my core values and beliefs, remaining genuine and authentic, seeking opportunities to learn and develop professionally and personally, and working tirelessly. It’s an ongoing process – one in which I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

What do you do outside of the law?
What don’t I do outside of the law? I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife and 3 children going to movies, amusement parks, and our favorite restaurants. I also enjoy playing basketball, both pick-up games and in competitive men’s leagues. Beyond that, I am an investor (with several other business professionals) opening a new, upscale nightclub and lounge this summer, called The Alibi Lounge and The Exchange Nightclub here in downtown Minneapolis.

Who were the people critical to your success?
Many people have been critical to my success, including my family; my teachers and professors; my sponsor (Terry Fleming); several mentors I’ve met through various Twin Cities Diversity in Practice events; and attorneys who have created a path for young lawyers of color like myself to follow in reaching our professional goals.

Who do you want to thank?
My wife, for her unwavering support, patience and guidance from day one; my children, for motivating me to always work harder; my mom, for pushing me and setting high expectations; my family and friends, for their encouragement and support; Twin Cities Diversity in Practice for all it does for the legal community; and my colleagues at Lindquist, especially Terry Fleming, for being a phenomenal sponsor, mentor, and friend.
