Summers almost over! How to end that clerkship strong!!

As we pass the midpoint of the summer clerkship opportunities what are some of things you should be doing to end the summer strong!

1) Ensure that whatever came up during your mid-summer reviews has been corrected and understood.  Letting your employer know that you heard them and you want to improve goes a long way.

2) Ensure that you complete all your projects before you leave!  Even if they say don’t worry about it…you should worry about it.  Lawyers don’t get to leave a client hanging, your clients are the Associates and Partners in your firms, do not leave them hanging!

3) cvent TCDIP_060915-9354Stay in touch.  Many organizations do not let you know whether there is even offer, before you leave,  if you are interested, stay in touch!  Make it easy for them to remember you and how connected and concerned you are about them and their clients.

4) Stay strong!  Physically, mentally and spiritually!  Taking care of you, will help you in the long run be someone people want to have on their team.  Even if you are tired, frustrated etc. cvent TCDIP_060915-8951put on a professional face and bring the job home! Everyone wants to work with people who they believe are giving it there all, even when times are tough.  I always asked myself, if I had to be stuck in a hotel working 12-14 hours a day…would I want to be there with you?

4) Don’t burn bridges!  Even if it does not work out, watch what you say about previous employers!  This is a small community, everybody knows everybody!  Own your part in things and use the experience you had to bolster your OCI’s or other employment opportunities.  Experience, experience, experience!  Focus on what you gained in the process to make yourself a better attorney!
